The STT meets to complete Preseason Report I: Stock Abundance Analysis and Environmental Assessment Part 1 for 2025 Ocean Salmon Fishery Regulations. This report provides abundance forecast estimates for key salmon stocks, and other information pertinent to the development of management options. CDFW Annual Salmon Information Meeting (Webinar Only)

This annual information meeting covers 2024 spawner abundances returning to the Central Valley and Klamath Basins, 2025 abundance forecasts, and management context guiding the development and implementation of 2025 ocean salmon fisheries. The public are invited to learn about pertinent data and management context shaping the upcoming ocean salmon season. The meeting will be hosted as a webinar only. The Council will determine whether any in-season actions are required for fisheries scheduled to open prior to May 16. They will also craft three regulatory alternatives for ocean salmon fisheries in effect on or after May 16. Final adoption of alternatives for public review is tentatively scheduled for March 11.

OPC Strategic Plan Listening Session

The Ocean Protection Council (OPC) is seeking early public feedback to inform OPC’s forthcoming 2026-2030 Strategic Plan. Building from the current 2020-2025 Strategic Plan to Protect California’s Coast and Ocean, the new Strategic Plan will guide OPC’s work to protect California’s coast and ocean through 2030.

A draft 2026-2030 Strategic Plan will be released in late Spring 2025 for written public comment. Please share your priorities to inform this draft Strategic Plan using the form below by 11:59 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2025.

Public Input Form

On Wednesday, January 8th there will be an in-person listening session to inform the draft 2026-2030 Strategic Plan. Please register for the listening session if you plan to attend. Please note important access and transportation information on the registration form. 

Each listening session will begin with an introductory presentation, although members of the public are welcome to attend at any time during the two-hour listening sessions.

Providing Public Comment:

Written Comments: Written comments should be sent to COPCpublic@resources.ca.gov by 12:00 p.m. on September 9, 2024. If you are writing about an item on the Council’s agenda, please include the item number in the email subject line. If you are writing with a general comment, please include a brief title for your comment.

Oral Comments: For each item on the agenda and at the end of the public meeting on non-agenda items, the OPC Chair will ask whether there are any requests for public comment. If you are participating via Zoom and want to provide oral comments on a specific agenda item, you will need to “Raise your hand” during the Zoom meeting. *If calling into the meeting from a telephone, you can use “Pound (#) 2” to raise/ lower your hand.

Once your hand is raised and it is your turn to speak, the meeting facilitator will unmute you, announce your name, and you will be able to make your public comment to the Council. *Depending on how you have called in, you may also need to unmute yourself.

A speaker’s time allotment for a specific agenda item is at the discretion of the Chair but generally limited to two minutes. It is strongly recommended, though not required, that public comments be submitted in writing beforehand so they can be distributed to all Council members for review prior to the meeting. After your public comment, your hand will be lowered and you will be placed back on mute.
